Between the years 1904 and 1914, Jean Durand was considered one of the masters of the form, both for the quality of his films and the wider influence he had upon film style. He joined Gaumont in 191 and there he directed some 168 films, specialising in comedies and adventure dramas. While at Gaumont, Durand assembled a bestiary of supporting players and delighted in introducing elephants, lions, camels, snakes, and dogs in to his farces and thrillers. Frequently menaced by the more deadly varieties was Durand's wife and leading lady Berthe Dagmar. Duran also commanded a squadron of acrobatic actors who specialized int he comic destruction of bourgeois intercourse, but who just as effectively served as the cowboys and Indians with which Durand populated his Wild West landscapes. Comedies: - Calino's Baptism - Calino Wants to Be a Cowboy - Zigoto and the Affair of the Necklace - Calino the Love Tamer - Zigoto's Outing with Friends - Oxford vs. Martigues - Onesime Goes to Hell - Calino, Station Master - Onesime vs. Onesime - Zigoto Drives a Locomotive - Onesime Gets Married...So Does Calino - Onesime: Calino's Inheritance - Onesime Loves Animals - Onesime, Trainer of Men and Horses - Onesime and the Heart of Gypsy - Onesime, You'll Get Married ...or Else - Onesime's Theatrical Debut - Onesime's Family Drama Dramas: - The Railway of Death - Burning Heart: An Indian Tale - Under the Claw
