A futuristic parable about the political future of Russia, Yurii Mamin's Sideburns is a grotesque satire on the fierce battle between conservative and reformist forces in Russia.
The Pushkin Club is a group of reactionaries who affect 19th century dress and want to remove from Russia "the scum of Western influence." Their first victim is the rock band Kapella. Then the Pushkin Club is enlisted by the local Party to act as a social cleaning service. Soon The Pushkin Club attacks innocent civilians. Sideburns is an original, biting satire and a warning about the rise of militarism and fascism in Russia from one of Russia's most original contemporary directors. Director: Yurii Mamin. Color.
