"Set in the Federal Republic of Germany in the early `50s. Two women of different social origins try to change their futures but are unable to escape their pasts. Mrs. Brielach, whose husband died in the war, lives with Leo, a self-seeking, tyrannical person, and her children. Mrs. Brielach leaves Leo to live with the baker for whom she works, but he is no less nasty than Leo. Nella's husband, Raimund, was a poet who stopped writing because the Nazis were trying to claim him for their purposes. He is unecessarily killed in battle when sent on a hopeless mission by the spiteful Lieutenant Gaseler. At a literary evening, Nella meets Gaseler, who has launched his own literary career. She wants to take revenge but fails when she discovers that the murderer is a perfectly ordinary person and not a demon." Director: Rainer Wolffhardt.
