AvailableBerlin industrialist Jenny Treibel, the daughter of a grocer, invites to dinner Corrina, the daughter of a childhood friend. Jenny`s youngest son, Leopold, falls for Corinna, and soon they are engaged. This outrages Jenny, who feels that Corinna is their social inferior, so she in turn arranges for Leopold to marry the daughter of a rich merchant. Leopold, despite his love for Corrina, is too weak to resist his mother's machinations. Though deeply disappointed, Corrina lets him go and maintains control over her life.
