DAS FRANKFURTER KREUZ. A group of folks primarily from the fringes of society spends New Year`s Eve drinking and conversing at "Frankfurter Kreuz," a glorified kiosk in a questionable part of town. VERRUECKT BLEIBEN, VERLIEBT BLEIBEN (MIND THE GAP). The film is a documentary about Torsten Ricardo Engelholz, a 30-year-old "mentally disabled" man, who was forced to spend most of his childhood locked away in a dark room and later in a psychiatric ward. Torsten Ricardo is a manic Underground rider and spends all his spare-time riding the subway. He is also a passionate and talented painter and an actor in a professional theatre group. He has the urge to move in constant flow of perception. This (cinematically very productive) passion and his great interest in the German and Berlin history enable the viewer to get an intensive insight of Torsten Ricardo's view on the world, which constantly moves between the so-called "normality" and his exeptional condition. The film explores the universe of a very special person in a very sensual way and deals with subjects that are essential. Notes: arte, 11/28/98. On same tape: "Verrückt bleiben, verliebt bleiben", which is a documentary. Director: Romuald Karmakar / Elfi Mikesch. Color. Country: Germany. No Subtitles.
