"Franìois Truffaut`s first feature, ""Les 400 Coups"", won the award for Best Director at the 1959 Cannes Film Festival. In this film, he includes autobiographical elements that he himself transcended to become the ingenious director we know today. The ending of this superbly heavy drama blasts the intrigue wide open, begging for a good discussion afterwards. A superb work of uncompromising realism, it`s the story of a young boy left to his own devices by an indifferent adult world. Twelve-year-old Antoine Doinel, flawlessly portrayed by Jean-Pierre LÄaud, is enduring a thoroughly dismal adolescence. His incapable parents are constantly at odds, his teachers are unfeeling and the correction officials he eventually encounters are brutally cruel. Trapped and tormented, Antoine increasingly turns to crime and faces a future as bleak and uncertain as his present hopeless existence unless he can discover his own well-spring of strenght inside himself." Notes: Jeanne Moreau and Jean-Claude Brialy make a short apparition. Director: Francois Truffaut. Actors: "Jean-Pierre LÄaud, Claire Maurier, Albert RÄmy " . Black&White. Country: France. Subtitled.
