Machorka Muff: Lieutenant Machorka-Muff is called to the defense ministry in Bonn and promted to the rank of general. He marries his beloved Inniga von Zaster-Pehnunz and realizes his pet project: the Academy for Military Memory. Director Jean-Marie Straub was an aesthetic pathbreaker, a member of the cinematic avant-garde whose work helped prepare the way for the auteurist filmmakers closely associated with the 68er generation in West Germany. Machorka-Muff, Straub's first film, is an adaptation of Heinrich Böll's satirical short story "Hauptstädtisches Journal" (1956) and reflects an attitude of refusal toward West Germany's recent remilitarisation. Notes: 3sat, 17.4.98. Also on tape: "Nicht versöhnt". Director: Daniéle Huillet / Straub & Huillet. Actors: Erich Kuby, Renate Lang, Guenther Strupp, Rolf Thiede. Color. Country: Germany. No Subtitles.
